Portage Academy

All Portage rehabilitation centres for youth provide mandatory on-site school programming, recognised by local school boards and adapted to the needs of the residents. Whereas in the past many Portage residents have struggled with school and some have even abandoned their studies altogether, Portage Academy helps them rediscover their academic abilities and often reawakens the drive to complete secondary school and even to go on to post-secondary studies.

The use of small classes and progressive techniques by Portage Academy’s specialised and dedicated teachers facilitates the learning process for residents. Students are motivated by the encouragement they receive. Portage is proud of the successes of its residents, many of whom go back to school and receive their high school diploma after completing their rehabilitation therapy.

In Québec, Portage has entered into agreements with the Rivière-du-Nord School Board for the adolescent rehabilitation program at Portage Prévost, near lac Écho, the Lester B. Pearson School Board for the Portage centre in Beaconsfield, and the Côte-du-Sud School Board for the Portage centre in Saint-Malachie.

In New Brunswick, Portage has an agreement with the Ministry of Education, School District 6 for the adolescent rehabilitation program at Cassidy Lake.

In Ontario, there is an agreement with the Upper Grand District School Board for the Portage centre for adolescents in Elora.

In British Columbia, Portage has an agreement with the Okanagan-Similkameen District 53 School Board for the adolescent rehabilitation centre in Keremeos.
