Portage Ontario welcomes new board members

28-mars-2012Portage is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the Portage Ontario regional board, Colin Shevlen and Neil King, and a new member of the Portage Board of Governors, Len Crispino.

Colin Shevlen began his varied and successful business career as Assistant Manager with the Robert Simpson Company. Moving on to Confederation Life, he achieved the million dollar round table level in sales. Mr. Shevlen changed careers in his early forties to work in commercial real estate where he had great success, specialising in selling apartment buildings. Now retired, he is finally beginning to enjoy the game of golf. Mr. Shevlen and his family have had first-hand experience with Portage at the lac Écho centre in Québec, where his son received rehabilitation treatment. As a result of that experience, the family is in one piece again and his son is now fully employed, studying and living independently.

Neil King manages the Sales and Account Management team for Morneau Shepell in both Canada and the United States. His portfolio includes Product Development, Communications, Marketing, Training and Global GDEAP & Intercultural Solutions. Mr. King has an Honours degree in Business from Wilfrid Laurier University and an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

“I am looking forward to working with Portage Ontario,” states Mr. King. “During a recent visit to the Portage Elora site I spent a few hours with one of the residents. I was both shocked and saddened to hear first-hand about the ease with which a 15 year old could get ahold of drugs like OxyContin. As a father of two young children, this talk made me better understand the challenges that we face as parents, as family members, and as a society to overcome drug addiction and abuse. More importantly, it made me understand that we can have a direct impact on the lives of these teenagers and their families.”

Len Crispino has had a distinguished thirty-year career with the Government of Ontario. He was most recently the province’s chief trade representative to Italy, and has also held senior positions in policy, planning, and operations with the Ministries of Social Services and Corrections. After leaving the Provincial Government, Mr. Crispino became President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, which has thrived under his leadership over the past decade.
