The director of Portage’s Mother and Child centre delivers a presentation on drug addiction and pare

18-mai-2010On May 12th, Danielle Des Marais, the director of the Portage’s drug addiction rehabilitation centre for mothers with their young child and for pregnant women suffering from drug addiction, gave a presentation at a conference in Montréal on dependencies. The conference, Rond-Point 2010, was put on by the Association des centres de réadaptation en dépendance du Québec (ACRDQ).

In collaboration with two social workers and a researcher, Mme Des Marais led a workshop on drug addiction and parenting.

Here is a brief description of her presentation:

Drug Addiction and Parenting
The consumption of drugs and/or alcohol during pregnancy can have significant negative impacts on an unborn child as well as during its childhood development and all the way into adulthood. The purpose of the workshop is to show the different facets of intervention, whether for the young mothers, as is provided at Portage’s Mother and Child centre, whether the intervention is interdisciplinary and interorganisational, as carried out at the CHUM in both prenatal and perinatal phases, or whether it is to provide knowledge and skills to people who have drug addiction or alcohol issues and who are likely to become parents.
