The Portage Atlantic “Recovery Trail” Project in Partnership with the Future Focus Foundation

April 2010

Portage Atlantic’s drug addiction rehabilitation treatment centre sits on 165 acres, mostly undeveloped, on the shores of Cassidy Lake.

The Recovery Trail Project involves extending and enhancing Cassidy Lake’s existing 3.8 km path, to include wheelchair accessibility and provide a safe and picturesque route for walking, running, biking and snowshoeing. The project will provide for the purchase of new recreational equipment to be used on the trail, including mountain bikes and snowshoes.

An enhanced outdoor recreation component at Cassidy Lake will help to strengthen the minds and bodies of our recovering youth while improving accessibility to the natural beauty of the Centre’s lakeside property.

Project Highlights:

  • Wheelchair accessible portion, lined with solar-lights for nighttime safety
  • Biking, hiking, and snowshoeing trails
  • Boardwalks through wetland areas and to boathouse
  • Beautiful lakeshore seating area platform near the boathouse
  • Rest stops with benches throughout trail
  • Sleeping shelter
  • Outdoor cooking & eating area
  • Serene meeting place
  • The Recovery Trail project will enhance our available natural assets and give youth a release from close-knit community living. The trail system will be appreciated by many youth, staff and families for years to come.
Future Focus Foundation is the charitable organisation founded by technology company T4G Limited. They are raising money for the Portage Atlantic Recovery Trail Project by seeking relay teams from New Brunswick corporations to participate in the "Stride for Success" portion of the Run Through History-Celebration of Green Space events. All money raised from Future Focus' Stride for Success will go towards the Portage Atlantic Recovery Trail Project.
